grr my brain

Tried using a new brush on this painting based on Pepe's crits. At first I was trying to capture the feeling of the moment with the brush strokes. Hence using a brush that is angle sensitive.
But then I thought, what does that mean? Feeling of the moment.
I feel lost in what I'm doing. I'm trying to first find a palette of colors that works for the story/feeling I get from the photo, then I block the painting in with those color relationships and value in mind. But then, edges start bumbarding my brain and I just get overwhelmed. Which just makes me bounce back and forth around the painting fixing this, adjust the shape on that....
I don't man. My brain is just spinning here.

  1. your drawing is greatt:) shape relationships. you are putting all of attention on the photo.. But thats what you want? cause rememberr the photo sucks, is your reference, the lighting sucks. YOu as an artist have to make it up, accentuate the things that are important to you, If values are flat on the photo, you must use your skills to make them better.

This things must always be gestural, dont put definite color, edges, values, strokes if you don't feel like it, even if in the photo looks great.

  2. i think,, the mistake or what I had seen is that we want to do what we did in Camerun's class.. Copying the photo, or life exactly how we see it.

I must tell you men that's not painting, that's copying. Painting is a process of making up something that sucks, like this photo because of the lighting, and making it more interesting.

Use the photo as reference as an idea.
Develop the idea into your own.

  4. painting should always be a struggle to find perfection on what you want to say.. If that looks awesome to you, then you will always be right, not matter what people say..
